Perth weather becoming like Abu Dhabi?
Perth metropolitan area currently obtains a majority of its potable water from the aquifer in the Gnangara mound region, studies would seem to indicate that this aquifer has not received significant recharge in about 25 years, despite an increase in demands for water extraction. A long term lowering of the ground water levels in the area has been observed, to be expected when water is being removed and recharge is simply not occurring. Paints a fairly bleak picture as far as sustainability of our water resources, also despite the number and intensity of studies into the area, relatively little is known about precisely how the natural system works.
